All Hill’s metal pet food cans are completely recyclable
Often used with cases and pouches
Different regions have different rules and policies when it comes to recycling. Contact your local recycling centre for region-specific questions, or check our guide below for details.
No, these bags (and plastics in general) are not designed to be biodegradable.
A lot, actually. We’re leading industry groups and working with industry partners around the globe to increase the circularity of packaging materials. Through testing in labs and real facilities, we are also working to ensure sorting is done at peak efficiency.
We have traditionally used flexible plastic materials that contain a PET layer due to their light weight and durability. These bags are lined with different plastic layers that have been sealed together. As a result, many Material Recovery Facilities have trouble sorting and breaking down these types of materials, which is why we are working to fully transition to 100% recyclable packaging. This process takes time since we do not want to sacrifice the quality or safety of your pet’s food.
We fully endorse customers getting full use out of our packaging and keeping trash out of landfills. If you’re looking for ways to reuse your cat and dog food bags and cans, there are a few decorative and practical upcycling ideas you can try yourself.
Select your region below for area-specific instructions. Local recycling rules apply.
Recyclable Bags (LDPE bags)
Empty the bag out completely and place it into your household recycling bin.
Metal Cans
Empty the cans out as good as possible and put them in your household recycling bin*. Or there are Cash for cans centres - where you can exchange empty aluminium cans for cash.
*Always check with your local council to see what the recycling rules are in your area.
Paper & Cardboard from Variety packs or Trays
You should be able to put the paper & cardboard into your household recycling bin*. You can also find paper banks in supermarket car parks or at retail parks. If you have more paper or cardboard waste than your recycling bin can accommodate, you can take it to a local recycling centre.
*Check with local council.
Pouches
You can recycle your pouches through Terracycle, linked here: https://www.terracycle.com/en-GB/about-terracycle/drop_off_locations
Shrink Wrap
Check with your local council. Some allow this to be collected as part of your recycling bin, or there are many collection points near your home (e.g. supermarkets).
